A Day in the Life
Picture this.
You’re wandering downtown Edmonds, searching for the perfect spot to rest after a day of perusing local shops. Crossing the street at 5th and Howell, black and white checkered seats surrounding bistro tables come into view. A smattering of quiet conversations over espresso, panini, and glasses of vino catch your eye. Covered by an awning, the outdoor seating finely reminds you of a past trip to Europe, and that charming neighborhood coffeeshop you found and ended up frequenting daily.
Opening the glass door, you’re greeted by the bustling-yet-relaxed atmosphere of the shop. The tin surround of the bar sparkles, as you lean in closely to browse the menu. Are you in the mood for sweet or savory? Hot or cold? Finally you decide: today it will be a croissant and a dry americano, decaf. You place you order with the gracious barista, and take a seat in the long booth. Simultaneous to the brewing of your espresso, you admire the cozy cabin-like ceiling painted black, and all the little touches, including the daily newspaper at the ready.
Your order is delivered, with your cup on a saucer next to a glass of sparkling water, on an elegant silver tray. You almost miss the surprise square of chocolate on the plate! What a classy palette cleanser. Sitting, watching, listening - enjoying the low rumble of coffeeshop sounds - you slowly enjoy your mid-day treat. People come and go, friends hug and chat. You feel like a content voyeur on vacation.
After the last drop has been sipped, the final flake has been crunched, you head off back onto the streets of Edmonds, ready for tomorrow when you can be once again enveloped into Il Viale, your new neighborhood haunt. A café you now know, without question, will become a part of your daily routine. How about tomorrow we try the latte?
